The Sanctuary Standard is my proprietary 5-pillar vetting system for European hotel comfort. I’ve applied it to my Upscale Hotel Brussels City Review.
Sanctuary Snapshot: A Quick Verdict
The Vibe: Airy and Sophisticated
The Standout: I would have to say the cookies and the service
The “Pause” Score: 4.8/5
Insider Tip: Ask for tour recommendations
We stayed at this perfectly situated accommodation in Brussels, just around the corner from the Rogier Metro station, in March of 2023. We booked this specifically for its proximity to the Rogier Metro station. This gave us easy access to everything we wanted to see. And I must say the artwork in the city’s metro stations are worth a ride around the city.
My Sanctuary Standard review found the DoubleTree by Hilton Brussels City to maintain all of the amenities Hilton guests are used to, while maintaining its European charm.
The staff was exceptional; they recommended a private walking tour, and the reception cookies were delicious!

Booking Tip: Look for rooms on higher floors to minimize street noise. This will ensure you get that “Sanctuary” feel above a busy street. We found ours comfortable and packed with amenities.

The “Pauses” Verdict
The DoubleTree Brussels City has everything you expect from a Hilton, but the outstanding and surprising cookies and tour guide made our stay extra special. I give it a solid 4.8/5.

My Sanctuary Standard vetting system found this sumptuous stay by Hilton to be the perfect sanctuary after a day of strolling through the city center. It’s a two-minute walk from the Rogier Metro stop, giving you quick access to the airport and major city sights.

The Room: A Sanctuary for Sleep
First Impression: The hotel sits on a busy thoroughfare. But as soon as you walk in the lobby, it’s quiet–a perfect transition from noisy street to sanctuary. I was especially intrigued by the gold-banistered staircase. The staff was exceptionally welcoming and helpful.
Sanctuary Silence on the Top Floors
Despite the city’s “high highway” energy outside, we enjoyed plenty of silence. And we had a great view of the city.
Beds are Just-Right Height
The beds are at an ideal height for easy getting in and getting out—not a glamorous detail but essential detail for we midlife travelers.
Easy Walk from Metro Station to Hotel
The walk from the metro to the front door is short and flat, making it easy to manage luggage and avoid unnecessary stairs.
Insider Tips: Cookies & Concierge
- On-site dining is available and offers a generous breakfast spread each morning.
- The Signature “Cookie”: A warm welcome that surprised me. It’s a small, sweet “pause”.
Do You Recommend This Hotel? The “Pauses” Verdict.
We stay at a lot of Hiltons, and some are better than others. This one was exceptionally better, and I highly recommend it.
